Comparison Thier vs Strava

Strava is the best activity tracker. Thier is the layer above it.

Strava knows you ran 6km. It doesn't know you slept five hours, your HRV is in the floor, and you're one threshold session away from a strain injury. Thier reads from Strava and adds the recovery context every running app outsources to your willpower.

Keep Strava as a data source. Make Thier the daily-open app.

The premise

A runner's stack in 2026.

You wake up. You open Strava and see yesterday's run sitting there, with a kudos count. You open Garmin and see a Training Load. You open your Oura ring and see Readiness 64 / 100. You open Apple Health to glance at sleep - five hours and twelve minutes. You scroll past four notifications from a hydration app, two from a meditation app, and one from a calorie counter you abandoned in February.

Now: should you run today, or rest?

No single app on your phone can answer that question. Thier can - because Thier reads from all of them and runs the answer through a 13-domain bio-age model that knows what each signal means at your baseline.

Side by side

Strava vs Thier - what each is for.

Strava is great. We mean that. We integrate with it, we read from it, we recommend keeping it on your phone. The comparison below is about what app you open first in the morning, not which one captures the run.

Feature Strava Thier
Captures activity (runs, rides, swims) Yes - best in class Reads from Strava via OAuth
Bio age + 13-domain physiological model No Yes - 100+ peer-reviewed coefficients
Recovery context (HRV, sleep, readiness) No Yes - across 7 wearable platforms
"Should I train hard or recover?" answer Subjective effort + RPE Daily move + readiness-aware protocol
Training-plan integration Strava Premium training plans Adapts to bio-age trends + recovery + sleep
Lab-value interpretation Not in scope Yes - built-in lab inference
Genetic / polygenic risk overlay No Yes - upload 23andMe / AncestryDNA data
AI Longevity Coach with memory of your data No Yes - full conversation memory
Daily protocol (sleep · training · nutrition · breath) No Yes - adapts to your trends
Open / published math Closed scoring thier.app/science - every coefficient cited
Annual price (premium) £59 (Strava Premium) £79 - replaces 4-7 other subscriptions
Verdict Keep it for the runs. Open Thier first. Open Strava when you actually run.

Honest framing

Most of our users keep Strava.

We don't sell Thier as a Strava replacement. Strava is the best activity-capture app on the App Store. The reason runners install Thier is that Strava doesn't tell them when to run hard and when to recover - which is the question most marathoners actually need answered.

1

Strava captures the run

Routes, splits, elevation, segments, kudos. Strava is the social layer of running.

2

Thier reads it

OAuth integration. Every run flows in. We add HRV, sleep, readiness, training load, and bio-age impact.

3

You make the call

"Today's move: easy 30 min, Z2 only. HRV is 18% below your baseline." That's the conversation Strava can't have.

"I've run on Strava for nine years. I started using Thier in February. The number of times I've over-trained because Strava only sees the runs went to zero. I still log every run on Strava - Thier reads them in. The difference is what happens between the runs."

Switch in 5 minutes

You don't switch off Strava. You switch on Thier.

Five steps. The whole thing takes a coffee.

  1. Install Thier from the App Store

iPhone, iOS 17+. Universal-link supported, so the rest happens in-app.

  2. Connect Apple Health

One tap. Reads sleep, heart rate, VO₂, body comp. The floor of every Thier feature.

  3. Connect Strava via OAuth

Tap "Connected Apps" → Strava. Approve. Your runs flow in within seconds.

  4. Get your bio age

Three minutes of self-report context (sleep timing, conditions, goals). The model fires.

  5. Open it tomorrow at 06:30

Your daily move is waiting. The first one is usually about sleep. The next is about training intensity. After that, you've found the rhythm.

Common questions

Specific to Strava users.

Will Thier replace Strava on my home screen?

Probably the home-screen position. Most users keep Strava installed (it's where the runs live) but stop opening it daily - they open it when they're about to run. Thier becomes the morning-open app.

Do I need Strava Premium?

No. Free Strava is enough - Thier reads activity-level data via the public OAuth scope. Strava Premium's training plans are a different category from Thier's daily-protocol coaching; some users keep both, most cancel Premium.

What about Garmin / Apple Watch / Polar runners?

Same. Thier reads from all 7 wearable platforms. The activity data flows in regardless of which capture app you use.

Does Thier give me kudos / segments / leaderboards?

No, by design. The Social tab is for accountability, not feed addiction. We don't think the kudos loop is what's missing from running - what's missing is recovery context.

Can I see my historical Strava runs in Thier?

Yes - on connection, Thier pulls 12 months of activity history into the historical store, which feeds the bio-age trend chart and the training-load context on the daily protocol.

Will Thier mess with my Strava activity uploads?

No. Read-only OAuth. We don't post to Strava, edit your activities, or interact with your follow graph.
